The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician – Machinist to join our Mobile Maintenance Team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. Relocation to the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required for this role.

This is a permanent on-site position, working a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotational schedule. 

As a Maintenance Technician – Machinist you will be responsible for repairing, troubleshooting, adjusting, overhauling, servicing, and maintaining all mobile equipment as assigned.

Additionally, in this position you will:

• Perform preventive checks according to preventive maintenance plans on Mobile equipment including Loaders, Excavators, Drills, Conveyors, Haul Trucks, any other mobile equipment for proper performance defects and malfunctions.
• Complete breakdown, preventative maintenance, corrective and minor repairs requiring machining and/or welding, as well as inspect, examine and test equipment to recommend the extent and nature of the work to be done while providing feedback improvement suggestions to the supervisor and planner and implement those that are within your ability.
• Be knowledgeable of the operation of lathes and milling machines to fabricate equipment, parts or components to engineered specs as required.
• Inspect and repair bores on booms, buckets, and other components using precision measuring tools and line boring equipment to meet very fine OEM tolerances.
• Conduct final inspections to ensure that the work detailed on the work order has been completed to meet safety standards and improve equipment availability and efficiency through quality maintenance and failure analysis.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work as well as adjust, repair, and replace defective parts and components as required on all equipment.

About You

Education:

• College diploma in Machinist is required.
• An Interprovincial Red Seal certification in Machinist is required.
• An Interprovincial Red Seal certification in Welding would be an asset.
• Willingness to start an apprenticeship in Welding or already have an active registered apprenticeship in Welding in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Machinist is required.
• Experience with welding is considered an asset.
• Previous mining and/or heavy industrial experience is required.

 Skills

• Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of mobile equipment.
• Innovation and ability to use initiative.
• Flexibility regarding work activities and type of work requirements.
• Ability to work in a multi-discipline, multi-tasking, team environment.
