Job Overview: We are seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Solar PV Design and Installation Technician to join our team, focusing on serving  the northern communities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, community, and commercial applications, ensuring that projects align with the values and needs of the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design solar PV systems that meet the specific needs of northern communities, considering local regulations and environmental impacts.
  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate solar potential, incorporating community input and traditional knowledge.
  • Prepare detailed installation drawings and technical specifications for solar PV systems.
  • Install solar PV panels, inverters, and associated electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Conduct system inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with community members, local contractors, and organizations to ensure project success and cultural relevance.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes related to solar energy, with a focus on indigenous practices and knowledge.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to community members regarding system operation and maintenance post-installation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in renewable energy or a related field is an asset.
  • Proven experience in solar PV system design and installation, particularly within Aboriginal communities, is a plus.

 

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, national electrical codes, and safety procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with an understanding of community dynamics.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse community members.
  • Ability to work at heights and maintain physical fitness for installation tasks as required.
  • Respect for cultural values and practices of Aboriginal communities.

Mandatory Requirement for All Northern Auxiliary Services Employees:

  • All employees of Northern Auxiliary Services are required to complete the Living Well Together program, offered by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). This Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity training is designed to enhance cultural competencies and foster understanding among participants. By engaging in this program, our employees will gain insights necessary to actively contribute to the reconciliation process and promote a respectful and inclusive environment for Aboriginal communities.
