The Registered Practical Nurse, under the direction of the Director of Care, provides safe and competent care through the application of nursing knowledge, the technical aspects of professional practice and the demonstration of compassion, professionalism and respect.

RESPONSABILITIES

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of nursing standards as they apply to geriatrics.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in physical assessments.
  • Medication administration.
  • Audits as directed.
  • Quarterly assessments.
  • Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations.
  • Applies Foyer Richelieu values and professional practice standards to resident care and service.
  • Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving.
  • Possesses working knowledge of computers, Point Click Care and EMAR applications.
  • Observes and documents resident care and behaviors according to Foyer Richelieu standards; report unusual events or changes in the resident’s condition to the nurse in change or to the Director of Care.
  • Understands and implements infection prevention practices.
  • Participates in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities.
  • Adheres to Foyer Richelieu Welland Policies and Procedures.
  • Participates in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with Foyer Richelieu’s Quality Improvement Program.
  • Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident and corporate information and discusses only with appropriate Foyer Richelieu Welland personnel.
  • Complete other tasks as requested.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate verbally in French and English. Ability to write in English.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, without supervision and in an atmosphere of change.
  • Is able to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Possesses good time management skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, autonomy, initiative and creativity.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Registered Practical Nurse registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Vulnerable Sector/Position Check (VSC) (within 6 months).
  • Tuberculosis (TB).

EXPERIENCE

  • One-year experience working to the full scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in an LTC setting.

PHYSICAL ABILITY

  • Ability to stand, bend, crouch, kneel and stretch arms freely.
  • Ability to lift 10 kilograms freely.
